The Bosmans String Quartet consists of four enthusiastic young musicians who love nothing
more than making music together. They share a great love of chamber music and seek freedom
and expression within this form. They met at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and the
Netherlands Youth String Orchestra.
Since its inception in 2023, the quartet has
taken masterclasses and lessons from musicians including members of the Dudok Quartet, the
Attacca String Quartet, the Busch Trio and members of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. They have
been selected as Quartet in Residency for the String Quartet Biennale Amsterdam 2028.
The
quartet is named after Henriëtte Bosmans, an important Dutch composer and pianist, born in
Amsterdam (1895). The string quartet she wrote is a great inspiration for the Bosmans
Quartet. Anne Bazen plays on an instrument made available by the NMF.
Anne Bazen (2007, Amstelveen) started violin lessons with Wiesje Miedema at
the age of six, where her great love for chamber music began. Her mother actually wanted her
to play the cello, but that was out of the question for Anne. She was determined to play the
violin, just like her mother and older sister. In 2021, she continued her lessons at the
Sweelinck Academy with Wiesje Miedema and Judith van Driel. Since the new school year in
2025, she has been studying at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam with Maria Milstein.
Anne
reached the semi-finals of the Prinses Christina Concours in 2024 and won second prize at
the Britten Violin Competition in the same year. She played as a 'Young Hero' at
Podium Klassiek and has performed several times at the Concertgebouw. She has taken
masterclasses with Peter Brunt, Daniel Rowland, Joe Puglia and Eliot Lawson. She is
concertmaster of the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra. Anne plays on an instrument made
available by the NMF.
Ruben Ide (2004, Ghent, Belgium) started playing the violin at the age of 5
with his father, Hendrik Ide, and later also with his grandfather Rogier Ide.From July 2018,
he took lessons in the Young Talent Class Amsterdam with Coosje Wijzenbeek. Ruben was also
part of the string ensemble Fancy Fiddlers. Since 2021, he has been studying with Vera Beths
(Conservatorium van Amsterdam), where he also started his bachelor's degree in 2022.
In
recent years, he has received masterclasses from Nadia Wijzenbeek, Maria Milstein, Marc
Danel and Rosanne Philippens, among others. In June 2020, Ruben won second prize in the
Britten Competition in Zwolle, and in 2022 he won the same competition. In 2025, he
performed Mendelssohn's violin concerto as a soloist with the Flanders Young Symphony
Orchestra conducted by Martijn Dendievel. He did so again later that year with the
Heemsteeds Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Leiden.
Sjoerd Versteegh (2003, Amsterdam) is a violist through and through. His
musical journey began at the age of seven with the violin, but even then he already
cherished a deep desire to embrace the viola. Two years later, his dream came true, and from
that moment on, his love for this instrument only grew. His passion for chamber music was
instilled in him from an early age, thanks to the family string quartet with his parents and
sister.
Sjoerd developed his musical skills with Sofie van der Schalie and since
2022 he has been studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Marjolein Dispa. In that
year, he started the preparatory course and then went on to the bachelor's programme.
He gained further inspiration as a soloist and principal violist at the Netherlands Youth
String Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra, and received masterclasses from Nobuko Imai
and Timothy Ridout.
Eleonora Mascia (2004, Pisa, Italy) began studying the cello at the age of six. She later studied in Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with Francesco Dillon and Paolo Bonomini, and with Silvia Chiesa. Her love for chamber music has led her to perform with various ensembles such as duo with piano, piano trio and string quartet. From 2016 to 2021 she was a member of the Florence Cello Ensemble, performing regularly as soloist and principal cello. She is currently pursuing her bachelor degree at Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, under the guidance of Gideon Den Herder. Here she became a member of the Dutch National Youth Orchestra (NJO). In 2025 she performed Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1 as a soloist with the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini. She has received masterclasses with Giovanni Sollima, Xenia Jankovic, Peter Bruns, Istvàn Vàrdai, Enrico Pace, Trio di Parma, Floris Mijnders.
Henriëtte Bosmans was an important Dutch composer and pianist, born in
Amsterdam (1895). She performed as a concert pianist throughout Europe with various
orchestras, including the Concertgebouw Orchestra. She was also very active as a chamber
musician, often playing in the Small Hall of the Concertgebouw.
Because her
mother was Jewish, she was kept under surveillance during the German occupation in the
Second World War, which resulted in her career as a concert pianist being interrupted in
1942. However, she continued to compose and published her work after the war.
In
the last years of her life, she fell ill and stopped performing. Nevertheless, she composed
songs for her friend Noémie Perugia during this period, which are considered to be the best
songs of that time. In 1951, she was knighted in the Order of Orange Nassau. Bosmans died in
Amsterdam in 1952.
In 1927, she wrote her beautiful string quartet, which is a
great inspiration for the Bosmans Quartet.
